My first novel, Leaving Nelson, was just an idea I had one day driving home from work when I was a brand new teacher sitting in traffic on the dreadful I-635. I had been thinking about my mother’s dying wish– to write a novel about how to overcome cancer. She never got the chance to write her story, but I decided that I would find a way to write one of my own.
Even though Leaving Nelson isn’t necessarily about that, it’s the story of a girl who found hope in the place she least expected it. It’s the story of a girl, who like me, found a way out of her pain by relying on her faith, her friendships, and her family. This story that took me over a decade to write, revise, and edit is now sitting on the table next to me.
It is surreal.
A dream so close to becoming a reality.
There are a few tweaks to be made, but hopefully within the next month or so, it’ll be ready for print. Thanks for your support, and I can’t wait to hear what you all think about it once it’s finally released.
